Hamm’s New HP 100i Pneumatic-Tire Roller Compactor Meets North American Customers
At the ConExpo-Con/Agg trade show, held last week in Las Vegas, Nevada, Hamm introduced a new pneumatic-tire roller compactor for the North American market. The HP 100i is an articulated, 6.6- to 11-ton (6- to 10-metric-ton) roller designed mainly for chipseal applications with a working width of 68 inches (1,725 millimeters). Hamm will make the HP 100i available in the spring.
Cab & Open Station Models Available
The HP 100i is based on Hamm’s HD+ series compactors. The new pneumatic-tire model has five wheels on its front axle and four wheels in the rear, configured with generous overlaps across the entire working width. Hamm invented a folding and sliding mechanism to allow the center tire to be changed without having to dismantle the others next to it.
A typical operator will have a decent view of the HP 100i’s tire edges from the seat of the compactor. Hamm offers the machine with an open operator's station with a roof and a rollover protection system (ROPS), or alternatively with a ROPS cabin. The suspension seat’s degree of stiffness is adjustable, as are the height and tilt of the seat and its armrests. The user can rotate the seat 90 degrees to either side.
Counterweight Kits
A 74-horsepower (55.4-kilowatt), Tier 4 Final emissions-compliant Deutz engine powers the HP 100i. To conserve diesel fuel, the roller’s Hammtronic machine control system calls up sufficient power for each task at the lowest engine speed necessary. An optional engine stop system automatically shuts it down after prolonged idling, which reduces fuel consumption and slow-rolls the accumulation of operating hours.
The HP 100i is available with modular ballast kits for adjusting the operating weight to 13,227 pounds (6,000 kilograms), 17,637 lbs (8,000 kg), or 22,046 lbs (10,000 kg). Its 185-gallon (700-liter) water tank provides ballast of its own with a water-sprinkling system as an option.
The HP 100i’s stepless acceleration can smoothly bring it up to a top travel speed of 11.8 mph (19 km/h). Depending on the steering angle, the articulated compactor can reduce its speed automatically under fast cornering. The operator can resume the set speed using a rocker switch on the driving lever.
Plentiful Options
Hamm offers a long list of add-ons for the HP 100i, including thermal aprons, a Hamm Temperature Meter, and easily replaceable scrapers for the tires. Available anti-slip control (ASC) can increase traction on rough terrain.
Some items are standard on certain configurations of the roller compactor but optional on others. These include cup holders, a heating and air-conditioning system, and a 12-volt power socket. A rearview camera is available for the cab version. Other optional features include a tilting steering column, a backrest extension for the seat, a seat belt monitoring device, an additional driving lever, comfort armrests, a radio, and storage spaces.
If the HP 100i is to be driven on public streets, an optional lighting package is recommended to comply with national regulations. Hamm also offers four-way work spotlights with either halogen bulbs or bright LEDs. LED lighting is also available for the compactor’s tires.
