Wirtgen Soil Stabilizers & HAMM Compactors Prepare Base For Industrial Park Project
Recently a contractor used Wirtgen soil stabilizers, HAMM compactors, and other equipment to prepare a solid foundation for a new industrial site and business park. The site, measuring more than 861,000 square feet (80,000 square meters) in area, had cohesive soil that needed to be stabilized and consolidated with a lime-cement mixture in order to support the new buildings of the industrial park.
Working in layers, Wirtgen WR 250 self-propelled and WS 250 tractor-towed stabilizers mixed the soil with the binding agent laid down by Streumaster spreaders to increase its volume stability, bearing capacity, and resistance to water and frost. Afterward, HAMM’s H 13i P padfoot compactors and smooth-drum H Series rollers finalized the surface of the reinforced soil. HAMM and Wirtgen are owned by the Wirtgen Group, which in turn is a John Deere company.
The Wirtgen WR 250i
The all-wheel-drive WR 250i soil stabilizer made by Wirtgen can process 60,000 to 130,000 square feet (6,000 to 12,000 square meters) of soil on a daily basis. With a working width of 7.9 ft (2.4 m) and a working depth of 22 inches (560 millimeters), the WR 250i is appropriate for large-scale jobs.
The WR 250i can also operate as a mobile cold recycler. It can reclaim asphalt 7.9 to 9.8 in. (200 to 250 mm) thick at a rate of 7,500 to 13,000 sq ft (700 to 1,200 sq m) per hour. The machine complies with EU Stage V and US EPA Tier 4 Final emissions standards.
The Wirtgen WS 250
Wirtgen’s WS 250 tow-behind soil stabilizer/milling machine can be attached to a 296-horsepower (220-kilowatt) or greater tractor with a 1,000-rpm PTO and a Category 3 and 4 three-point hitch. It can mix soils and binding agents up to 20 in. (500 mm) deep across a working width of up to 8.2 ft (2.5 m). Its milling and mixing rotor can also crush overly coarse granules as needed.
The HAMM H 13i P
HAMM’s H 13i P padfoot compactor also complies with Stage V and Tier 4 standards. It uses an innovative three-point swivel joint to provide articulation and traction on off-road terrain. Its trapezoidal pad feet increase the sub-base’s surface area to dry out the blended soil as it compacts. The H 13i P’s drum is 84.3 in. (2.14 m) wide. The 156.4-HP (115-kW) machine features large front and rear bank sloping angles and technologies such as the HAMM Compaction Quality (HCQ) monitor.
