Vögele Launches Electric Mini 500e & 520e & Diesel Mini 500 & 502 Compact Pavers
The new Mini series of asphalt pavers from Vögele brings automation and improved pavement quality to small projects that would normally require manual labor to pave, the company says. Vögele’s new Mini Class comprises the rubber-tracked Mini 500 and Mini 500e and the wheeled Mini 502 and Mini 502e. The 500 and 502 are diesel-powered machines, and the “e” models are battery-electric and emissions-free.
“There is high demand for flexible, sustainable solutions on small-scale jobsites,” says Marcio Cavalcanti Happle, Vögele head of Sales, Local Marketing and Product/Customer Support. “The new Mini pavers help customers handle a wide range of jobs quickly, cheaply, and sustainably.”
Mini Models
Vögele developed the Mini pavers in cooperation with Italian road construction machinery manufacturer C. M. S.r.l., which builds the machines for the German firm. Vögele first presented the wheeled and rubber-tracked compact pavers at Bauma 2022 last October.
The new Minis are ideal for paving cycle paths, sidewalks, drains, and ditches, as well as for paving between rail tracks and performing downtown repair work. Both the wheeled and tracked Minis have tight turning radii, but the wheeled Mini 502 and Mini 502e are especially competent at paving tight curves. The wheeled models have two rear drive wheels and two front steering wheels mounted on bogies.
Specifications & Dimensions
The electric Mini 500e and 520e models are powered by a 22.8-kilowatt (30.6-horsepower) lithium-ion battery that delivers up to 16 hours’ worth of low-noise, emission-free paving. The battery can recharge in eight hours at a 230-volt power outlet.
The diesel-powered Mini 500 and 520 rely on a two-cylinder engine with 13.7 HP (10.2 kW) of power. The efficient motor complies with EU Stage V and EPA Tier 4 Final emissions standards. The pavers are run by a hydrostatic drive system and feature a 1.65-ton (1.5-metric-ton) hopper.
Depending on the model, the new Minis have an operating weight of 1.1 to 1.65 t (1,000 to 1,500 kilograms). The 8.76 x 2.85 x 5.2-foot (2,670 x 870 x 1,585-millimeter) pavers are easily transportable.
The AB 135 Screed
Vögele also launched its new AB 135 extending screed for Mini class pavers. It has a basic width of 2.62 ft (0.8 meters) and is infinitely adjustable up to 4.4 ft (1.34 m) of paving width without add-ons. With cut-off shoes, however, the AB 135 can reduce its paving width to just 0.82 ft (0.25 m). Bolt-on extensions expand its per-pass width to 5.9 ft (1.8 m).
As a wheel loader or excavator feeds hot asphalt into a Mini paver’s hopper, a wear-resistant steel conveyor moves the mix forward. Sensors manage the augers that distribute the asphalt, taking care to maintain an even head of hot mix ahead of the screed. Flow gates provide another means of regulating the material flow rate at the discharge point.
The AB 135 is heated with liquid gas with electronic ignition. The screed uses vibrators to compact the freshly laid asphalt.
