Vögele’s newest Super 1880 L Universal Class tracked paver is engineered to lay down hot asphalt mixes as well as cold, water-bound, coarse materials for motorways, A roads, and B roads. Part of the manufacturer’s Classic Line series, the heavy-duty Super 1880 L can pave base courses up to 19.7 inches (500 millimetres) thick with paving widths of up to 31.2 feet (9.5 meters), depending on the selected screed. The paver is available with U.S. EPA Tier 3 and EU Stage IIIa emissions standards or lower in markets across Africa, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Oceania, and Southeast Asia.
Multiple Screed Options
Vögele’s Super 1880 L has a large material hopper that can hold up to 16.5 tons (15 metric tons) of mix, allowing it to carry a generous buffer of material in between mixer truck loads. The hopper’s generous length, low feed height, and overall geometry make it easy for mix trucks to dock and rapidly dump their loads. A feed vehicle can offload material smoothly and without jerking thanks to the paver’s wide, oscillating push-rollers, which the operator can move forward 3 or 6 in. (75 or 150 mm) as needed.
The new paver has a strong longitudinal and lateral conveyor system with a high throughput rate supporting a continuous flow of material. Extending asphalt screed model options AB 480, AB 500, AB 570, and AB 600 use a stalwart, single-tube telescoping system to provide 25.6 to 31.2 ft (7.8 to 9.5 m) maximum paving widths. These screeds are available in TV versions with tampers and vibrators.
For road base construction work using cold materials such as cement-treated base (CTB), the Super 1880 L can be fitted with the specialized SB 300 HD fixed-width screed. Deep screed plates give the SB 300 HD outstanding flotation performance. The special geometry of the tamper contributes to especially high compaction values in conjunction with an adjustable tamper stroke of 0.08, 0.16, or 0.28 in. (2, 4, or 7 mm) depending on the thickness and material in the layer.
Sure Footing
Vögele powers the new Super 1880 L with a 212-horsepower (158-kilowatt), 6-cylinder diesel engine. An Eco mode can reduce the engine’s speed from 2,000 to 1,700 rpm to reduce fuel consumption, operating costs, exhaust emissions, and noise output.
The manufacturer added extra track carrier rollers as it optimized the paver’s crawler unit. The sprockets on either side of the carrier contain separate, electronically controlled drives for each crawler track. The dual drives furnish positive tracking while traveling in a straight line as well as accuracy and precision when turning corners. New track pads and the long footprints of the crawler tracks supply maximum traction on difficult terrain. The new track pads are easy to replace, according to the manufacturer, and have high abrasion resistance for longer service life.
Simple Control Systems
Vögele’s Classic Line series of pavers comes with the ErgoBasic operating control concept. ErgoBasic is a simplified, easy-to-use version of the ErgoPlus 3 system from the company’s Premium Line of pavers. The manufacturer also offers the intuitive Niveltronic Basic system for automated grade and slope control with the Super 1880 L. According to Vögele, Niveltronic Basic helps less experienced operators make the paver work true to line and level on any base.
