    About Ride-On Trowels

Along with handheld and walk-behind trowels, ride-on trowels are one of three primary types of trowels used in paving operations to help level and smooth a wet concrete surface and make it more dense and solid. Ride-on and walk-behind trowels use gas, diesel, and liquefied petroleum gas engines or electricity to power rotors equipped with multiple blades, enabling them to trowel more square feet quickly and more efficiently than manual troweling.

While walk-behind trowels have one rotor that typically has four or more blades to cover anywhere from about 26-inch to more than 48-inch diameters, ride-on models feature two rotors and therefore offer path widths that range up to well in excess of 100 inches. Ride-on trowels include joystick, electronic, and hydraulic control options.

    Ride-On Trowel Features

Similar to the design of a zero-turn lawn mower, a ride-on trowel features an elevated seat that’s situated on a flat deck above the machine’s rotors, giving the operator good all-around visibility. Ride-on trowel models typically have roughly 25- to 85-horsepower engines, meeting Tier 4 emission regulations and using electronic fuel injection, air cooling, turbocharging, low-torque, and other technologies.
