Gomaco’s GP460 Combination Placer/Spreader & Slipform Concrete Paver Goes Wide
At this week’s 2023 ConExpo-Con/Agg convention in Las Vegas, Gomaco introduced the GP460, which like its GP360 predecessor can perform both placer/spreader and slipform paving duties. What sets this new machine apart is its increased paving width; Gomaco says the tracked concrete paver can do placer/spreader paving at widths up to 50 feet (15.2 meters) and slipform paving up to 40 ft (12.2 m) wide. The multitalented machine is built on the framework of the company’s two-track GP4 slipform paver, and can convert its prime mover into a concrete placer/spreader.
The GP460 follows in the footsteps of the high-production GP360, which Gomaco says was the industry’s first combination concrete slipform paver (up to 30 ft; 9.14 m) and placer/spreader (up to 36 ft.; 11 m) on two tracks.
The GP460 In Action
Powered by a Caterpillar C7.1 Tier 4 turbocharged diesel engine, the GP460 is equipped with a 60-inch (1,524-millimeter)-wide conveyor belt that is mountable on either the left or right side of the machine to match jobsite conditions and the location of the haul road. Discharge speeds reach 492.5 ft (150 m) per minute. A controllable material deflector assists with concrete placement accuracy, and a dual-driver auger system guides material to the center or outer areas and across the strike-off.
Using Gomaco’s exclusive G+ digital control system, operators can control the prime mover’s vibrator and drive circuits for paving and placing. In addition to handling the necessary control conversions, G+ builds in Machine to Machine (M2M) communication and 3D machine guidance functionalities. The system can also work with an optional sonic sensor system that monitors the depth of concrete as it’s placed in front of the paver.
