    About Concrete Equipment

Whether construction crews are paving a road, creating foundations, or constructing a building, an assortment of specialized concrete equipment is needed to get the job done effectively. From processing performed at concrete plants to transportation in mixers or concrete buggies, construction professionals often use several machines just to get the correct concrete mix to the jobsite. Once the concrete is poured using a concrete pump, crews can use concrete pavers, curb and gutter machines, trowels, and concrete saws to finish the project in a timely manner.

    Concrete Pavers

Concrete pavers lay concrete at various widths to create highways, streets, and other surfaces. Slipform pavers the most popular type, and most if not all slipform pavers are track models that are ideal for laying roads, parking lots, and other, similar surfaces. Other options include form-riding, canal, and triple- and quad-tube roller pavers.

    Curb & Gutter Machines

Curb and gutter machines are used by paving, road construction, and other operations to form curbs—or the concrete or asphalt barrier between, say, a city street and a residential lawn—and gutters—a flat slab of concrete or asphalt that adjoins with the curb to guide moisture runoff to drainage systems. The machines are available in self-propelled track and wheel models to match the terrain.

    Concrete Pumps

With the ability to pump concrete over long distances, including upward using booms or along the ground via pipelines, concrete pumps are the most efficient way to move liquid concrete to where it needs to be poured. The pump itself could be truck-mounted, on a towable trailer, part of a tracked vehicle, or a stationary device.

    Concrete Mixers

Concrete mixers are available in a wide variety of towable and truck-mounted designs and sizes to suit all types of applications. For example, some can be used for either wet or dry applications, while others only work with ready-mix concrete. Models like volumetric concrete mixers even feature compartments to store and mix the materials to create different grades of concrete on site.

    Concrete Buggies

Available in walk-behind, stand-on, and ride-on models, concrete buggies feature powered dump buckets with 16-cubic-yard or greater capacities and the ability to transport up to several thousand pounds of concrete. Wheel models are generally less expensive and faster than track models, and track models are typically better for transporting material on sand, soft soil, and mud or on jobsites with uneven terrain requiring additional traction.

    Trowels

Powered trowels provide considerable advantages in terms of efficiency, productivity, and time-savings as compared to using hand trowels to flatten and smooth large slabs of concrete spanning several thousand square feet. Powered trowels can range in area of effect from less than 24 inches across to a path width of more than 60 inches; walk-behind trowels are usually single-rotor machines, while ride-on models generally incorporate dual multi-blade rotors.

    Concrete Saws

Concrete saws are powered equipment used to cut pavement, as well as asphalt, brick, rebar, masonry, and other materials. Also called “floor saws,” “joint cutters,” “flat saws,” “pavement saws,” or “slab saws,” these useful demolition and construction machines are handy for cutting expansion joints to prevent slabs of concrete from cracking. PavingEquipment.com offers many ride-on and walk-behind models—though there are also many industrial handheld examples usable in certain applications.
